purplemonkey Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 ok i've had the gearbox replaced and torque convertor and the throttle body, and then the maf tube had fallen off so that was re-attached. Its basically ok now and this is an intermittent fault that only seems to happen when full load in car and going up an incline/hill it still moves forward but seems to slip on the gear it revs high and then suddenly seems to kick in with a bit of a thud. Any ideas would be appreciated? Also is it possible to change a gearbox without changing the fluid as i had wondered if that was the problem? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Hi there and welcome to the new upgraded forumWould normally be necessary to drain fluid when changing gearbox unless it will come out without removing intermediate shaft in which case it proberbly wasn't drained.I take it then you had a secondhand gearbox fitted, I would be very wary of that unless you new the history of it , you may end up with a worse one than what you had, it sounds like the clutches are slipping in the box, but I would first check the condition of the fluid first by draining a sample if it's brown or black colour then it's old fluid, assuming it's a mk 2 AG5 box it should be cherry red.You then need to check the level which is not straight forward but information is available in the FAQ section of the site. Can you put your car details in your post ie year, engine type/code :) Quote
